Google forced into Human rights activism in China

Much like Microsoft, Apple will be remembered as the company that became so ‘elite’ and ‘exclusive’ that they they failed to open up and grow. The free flow of alternative minded, more open-source community-oriented ideas didn’t fit with the archaic Itunes store design.
Apple’s Iphone had an unprecedented opportunity to become the Ma Bell of cell phones, yet when they made an exclusive deal with AT&T, among other Malady…
The research / review below makes it clear what’s in store for the Iphone this year: Phone geeks are flocking to Google Android.
Apple failed to open up and lost because they ruled with an archaic Itunes thumb. Rather than using their thumb they could of reached out and grabbed hold of the entire market for a decade. They could of scaled Iphone to it’s true potential market share, but they didn’t. And now that opportunity is in it’s 11th hour… Much like Microsoft in it’s early days, Google is turning it’s momentum into acceleration.
What’s gonna be of Iphone after Android levels out? Will it be the same as the Apple to PC ratio? How much of the Iphone platform will be left after a big chunk of it’s market share is gobbled up in the next six months?
Anyways, here’s the info that inspired me:
ChangeWave’s December 9-14 survey of 4,068 consumers shows the Android operating system roiling the smart phone market, with Motorola’s new Droid smart phone the biggest and most immediate beneficiary.
Among respondents who currently own a smart phone, 4% say they’re currently using Google’s Android operating system – a 3-pt jump since our survey in September.
But more importantly, 21% of those planning to buy a smart phone in the next 90 days say they’d prefer to have the Android OS on their new phone – a monstrous 15-pt jump in just three months.

While recently working for a non-profit I had to set up their online
payment services for them. So I took the opportunity to benchmark the three primary payment providers of Amazon, Google and Pay Pal. I’m grateful for the opportunity to look at the strengths and weaknesses of each three…

At first Amazon looked like the winner cause our target consituency
are Amazon users. Catch was our non-profit didn’t have a debit card,
so we couldn’t sign up until we got one. Pay Pal on the other hand
took 72 hours to respond to us to tell us that they wanted four
different obscure forms of specific legal documentation in order to prove we
are a legitimate non-profit customer.
Google Payments on the other hand… They were a throwback to how good
Paypal was 8 years ago before Ebay bought them. As soon as our bank’s
routing number was verified (24hours) I had payment buttons on all
the relevant pages of our website in a matter of minutes. Even better is that
soon as we fill out more forms we’ll likely get a google grant, which
means no service charge on our donations, as well as what some call
“$10,000 a month in ‘gifted’ google ad sense benefits.” So looks like
Google wins if you want ease of use and no hassle.

Author’s note: I used my personal paypal account to make a one time
payment to pay for the monthly fee of this website and you know what
happened? Pay pal turned it into a subscription by default? Opting out
of subscription by defautl was made quite hard to do too!
Hello,
I recently started using an internet search engine that saves 2m² (2.4yd²) of rainforest with each web search I do. Their search results are as good as Google or Yahoo, and it’s free.
The address is: http://www.Ecosia.org
So far Ecosia has saved 171,944 m² (205,645 yd²) of rainforest! Check it out and forward this email to your friends. It’s never been so easy to be green.

And no it’s not a dark cloud, it’s a brighter more efficient future cloud of data and communication.

Cloud networking is the interconnection of components to “meet the networking requirements inherent in cloud computing“[1]. Cloud networking allows users to “tap a vast network of computers that can be accessed from long distance by a cell phone, laptop or mobile device for information or data”[2]. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_networking
Cloud computing is Internet- (“cloud-”) based development and use of computer technology (“computing“).[1] In concept, it is a paradigm shift whereby details are abstracted from the users who no longer need knowledge of, expertise in, or control over the technology infrastructure “in the cloud” that supports them.[2] It typically involves the provision of dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources as a service over the Internet.[3][4] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing
For starters it’s about developing your advocacy place in the clouds. Think of it like Real Estate. The more real estate you can grab before people know it’s value the better. In other words all your online friends, all your networks and communication tools, all the distributors of your message, they are far less valuable now then in the future. It’s about making invesments now that will pay off later. About making a daily effort to:
1) figure out what you need to do in the cloud,
2) find out who is already doing what you need to do and how you can work with them,
3) keep focused on ways the cloud can make your routine advocacy efforts less time consuming.

Adopting new computer tech tasks into our daily routine is not easy. Most often people approach learning new tech tasks by avoiding them at first. Then as the task seems more necessary, as friends who have completed those same tasks become more prevalent. (ie. people signing up for Facebook) we start to take the time to get it done.

But what if you’ve had bad learning experiences or aren’t interested in learning ‘technical computer stuff?’ Relax… even small kids can figure out how an Iphone works. And the cloud the Iphone is part of can also sometimes be as easy as an Iphone to use.

So lets start blasting past the techno-phobic barriers of the human psyche and move into the cloud. Let’s begin by doing something we all must do, yet we too often avoid getting it done:
To backup up your computer data using the cloud all you have to do is set up an online data storage account. The way the services work is that you will have a folder on your computer and anything you put in that folder will be backed up and stored online. Most of these services will allow you to access your data via other computers or thru your cell-phone. Welcome to the cloud! Study up with what you can do now that your data is online. —> You’ll soon be utilizing your back up data much, much differently!

Finally someone summed up life in the land of Probloggerville. I mean Blogosphere… Below is some of what was said on Problogger today. What’s said below is true in many more ways than blogging!

Are You Talking At Or Talking To Your Readers?
If I walked into a crowded mall, went into the food court, stood there in the middle of it and just started talking, what do you think would happen?
Most people wouldn’t see me. Then, a few would and they would probably think I was crazy. At the end of the day, I’ll just be that crazy guy they saw at the mall.

Now, imagine if 90% of the people in the food court did that. They just got up and started talking into space. It would be one big din of noise. Now, all of those people want to feel as if they are famous, so they start competing and trying to out-talk the other people. The volume increases, but few are being listened to. The ones who are listened to are the ones at least saying something useful.
And that is the blogosphere.

A popular video currently making the rounds is clearly demonstrating what’s happening with the internet’s social-net transformation. That video is posted below. It’s imprtant for everyone to see it. But what’s more important is first seeing a similar video that was made a couple years ago. Between these two videos, you may be able to discern where you fit into it all…
